PSAT/NMSQT 2026-2027 : 1000 MCQ with Answers

The PSAT/NMSQT is a digital standardized test that measures skills in Reading and Writing and Math. It is mainly taken by high school students, especially those in 10th or 11th grade; 11th-grade students may also be considered for the National Merit Scholarship Program, subject to its eligibility rules.

The PSAT/NMSQT is delivered digitally in two sections: Reading and Writing, followed by Math. Each section is divided into two timed modules, and the test uses adaptive technology, so the difficulty of the second module depends partly on performance in the first.

The test takes about 2 hours and 14 minutes, excluding the scheduled break. It includes 98 scored questions in total: 54 in Reading and Writing and 44 in Math. Students also receive a short break between sections.

Reading and Writing covers comprehension, central ideas, evidence, inferences, vocabulary in context, grammar, sentence structure, transitions, rhetorical purpose, and data interpretation. Math includes algebra, advanced math, problem-solving and data analysis, and geometry and trigonometry.

The PSAT/NMSQT is developed and administered through the College Board, with schools and approved test centers coordinating test sessions. It does not use separate school-exam boards or foundation and higher tiers like some secondary-school qualifications.

The PSAT/NMSQT does not have a pass or fail grade. Scores range from 320 to 1520, with separate Reading and Writing and Math scores, and students or programs may use different score ranges for comparison, selection, or scholarship purposes.

The PSAT/NMSQT is generally offered during a fall testing window, with the exact dates set for each school year. Registration is usually arranged through participating high schools or approved test centers, so students should check with their school or the official College Board information for current deadlines and availability.

A calculator is permitted throughout the Math section. The digital testing application includes an embedded calculator, and students may also use an approved handheld calculator under the current test-day rules. Check the latest official calculator requirements before test day.

Begin by taking a diagnostic practice test to identify weaknesses, then review the relevant Reading and Writing or Math skills. Work on timed questions, analyze every mistake, and practise interpreting evidence, transitions, grammar, data, algebra, and problem-solving rather than only memorizing formulas.

The PSAT/NMSQT can help students understand their readiness for the SAT and identify areas for improvement. It is also used in the National Merit Scholarship Program for eligible U.S. students, but it is not normally used as a direct college-admission test in the same way as the SAT or ACT.
